UFPEL and NUS win grants to research hospital antimicrobial resistance & biomaterials for One Health

The projects are led by Dr. Lund (Federal University of Pelotas) and are part of the international collaboration with NUS.

A team led by professor Rafael Lund from the Federal University of Pelotas (UFPel) had a network project awarded in the Call Program Inova Fiocruz (FAPERGS/FIOCRUZ Health Network RS). The project is a network collaboration with A/P Rosa (National University of Singapore) and researchers from the Catholic University of Pelotas, University Hospital, Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG), Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Fiocruz Brasília (Oswaldo Cruz Foundation - Federal District) and Cristófoli Equipamentos de Biossegurança Ltda.

The first grant will evaluate of the scenario of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in university hospitals and a proposal of technologies for the prevention, control, and monitoring of Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAI).

Dr. Lund and Dr. Neftali (on the right) visited NUS for one week to align the project objectives. The students and staff had the opportunity to hear about the research programs, collaborations, and entrepreneurship.

The second grant "Development of a bacterial cellulose membrane, graphene oxide and niobium pentoxide for skin healing" is part of the MCTI Graphene Innovation Program (InovaGrafeno-MCTI) - Basic and Applied Research Projects, which aims to support research, development, innovation and the implementation of technological and business solutions using graphene and carbon-based 2D materials in society.

"It was wonderful to host the team here in Singapore and it will be great to collaborate with researchers on topics that are very important to society, namely, antimicrobial resistance and the development of advanced materials for new business opportunities. Both UFPEL and NUS will benefit from the research itself and open opportunities for student exchanges. As a Brazilian, I am looking forward to the success of this collaboration and more opportunities to contribute to the development of Brazilian researchers." said A/P Rosa.
